No one likes pimples, especially if they are on your own face. They aren’t pleasant to look at, they’re painful to have, and can leave scars if popped. Luckily, there are many simple acne skin care tips that can reduce and possibly eliminate these skin blemishes.
A pimple forms when sebum, the oil that normally coats hair and skin is mixed with dead skin cells, which in turn clogs the pores. Acne is more common among teens, since elevated hormone levels cause an increase in sebum production. However, many adults continually struggle with trying to keep acne at bay. Here are a few acne skin care tips to help your acne eradication battle.
First of all, never pop pimples. Popping pimples can push the infection deeper into the skin, causing more redness, irritation and pain. Popping acne can even cause the skin to scar.
Wash your face twice a day – no more, no less. Use warm water and gentle circular motions to remove dead skin cells and excess oil, but do not scrub hard. Scrubbing and over washing can irritate the skin, thus raising your chances of having acne form. Apply a lotion with benzoyl peroxide after washing your face to help moisturize while still controlling oil and bacteria levels. Also, be sure to wash your hands before applying anything to your face like makeup or lotion.
If acne occurs on any body part other than the face, avoid wearing tight clothing, as tight clothes will restrict the air circulation and increase the likelihood of the skin to become irritated. Nonetheless, you should try to shield your body, as much as possible from the sun, as tanning causes the body to produce more sebum than usual, which in turn creates the potential for more breakouts.
Avoid skin contact with objects that tend to collect oil and residue, like cell phones. Dirty fingers can serve the same purpose, depositing more irritants onto pores. Caps, head scarves, and headbands can also collect oil and restrict air flow, thereby increasing the risk for acne breakouts. Be sure to keep your hair clean in order to decrease the chance of more oil and dirt being deposited into the pores. If glasses are worn, you will want to be sure to keep the frames clean so as to avoid oil buildup on the nose.
Implementing these tips will help to increase the health of the body’s largest organ–the skin. Staying vigilant on cleanliness will keep breakouts at bay and provide you with increased happiness, a better sense of well-being, and of course a better overall appearance.
