I did I feel it necessary to admit a few things before starting this review proper. Essentially, once Weber sets up his handwavium, he always plays the game with scrupulous fairness thereafter. I did think that Weber did a wonderful job with supporting characters, in particular with McKeon. Yes I am hypocritcal, I have thoroughly enjoyed bad books see most of Piers AnthonyI have given series a couple of books to get going see Harry Dresden but mostly once a book starts sounding ridiculous I can’t stop seeing the flaws. Also, those who like me love the idea of sentient cats the treecats will really enjoy meeting Nimitz!

Whilst embroiled in this plot and trying to uncover who might be behind it, Honor Harrington becomes a figure of political note for the first time. Stop telling me she is the top of her class and has ‘unique elegant feature, but not pretty of course, but still looks young and attractive’.

Women are portrayed in every rank and sector of Manticoran society, and every level of the military from wrber enlisted to the high command. Having made Sonja Hemphill look a fool, she’s been exiled to Basilisk Station in disgrace and set up for ruin by a superior who hates her.

However, even though I was initially disappointed when I realized Honor wasn’t going to be whipping out a laser rifle anytime soon, I found myself more and more enthralled by the world David Weber has created in this series.
